East meets West

Image of East meets West

My depection of east meets west. Aside from retro everything, I also love Japanese woodblock prints. I have to think that these would be considered retro in Japan as they are pretty old. The illustrative style is much different than that of the west. Here you not only see the different cultures, but the contrast of style. The two B-52’s flying overhead help to set this piece to a specific time period. I just started discovering munnys when I created this painting, so I decided to include them in the waitress’s kimono. The lizard in the cup simply states “This is not your typical American meal”. I like the contrast of styles and the retro feel of the subjects. It deals with the positive and negative of Japanese/American relations right after WWII. Canvas measures 18X24" and is composed with acrylics, pen and ink, and prismacolor pencils. It is now framed although the picture does not show it. As always, shipping in the USA is free.
